The 40 acre Komenda maize farm was established in 2011 in Komenda in the Central Region. The Komenda Farm is located on the estate of the defunct Komenda Sugar Factory. The land was used for sugar cane production in the early 70s. The Ministry of Trade and Industries has served notice to use the land for sugar cane production. Negotiations are ongoing for the scheme to move into sugar cane production to feed the sugar factory.
The farm has 5 Tractors and accessories, 2 six-row planters, 1 Grain Dryer, 1 Toyota Hilux Pick-up, and 1 SML 5-Tonner Truck. The farm has the potential to produce 7,000 bags of maize annually if right management practices are taken and adequate resources provided at the right time.
